Computer goes poof again

The monster computer from North Corporation stopped working sometime yesterday. When I cam home from work, it was dead. I turned it off and back on, to no avail. I suspected the (relatively) new video card, so I removed it and kept the old. Again I restarted the machine, and it displayed an error message:
BIOS ROM checksum error
then
Detecting floppy drive a: media...
INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER
When I insert a system disk, it says:
Drive media is : 1.44Mb
Disk I/O error
Replace the disk, and then press any key

Yes, this is the same computer that I had to repair late in December, the same computer where the previous video card died screaming a few weeks earlier in December. In all fairness, North Corporation repaired the computer in a matter of days, and gave me a better video card (after giving me one that did not work at all,
